Animation made for the Democracy Commission and Kirklees Council
"Democracy is about people and places. It's about people coming together to make decisions about where we live, work and play.
You make democracy happen. Think about the place where you are right now. What would you like to do to make it better?"
We worked with Diane Sims and Michelle Ross from Kirklees Council and Kirklees Democracy Commission to bring alive their ideas about getting communities involved in democracy and local decision-making.
Kirklees Council have been listening to local community activists about their stories of getting involved in making their areas better. How you can take an idea about how to improve the area you live in and to make it grow.
The voice of the animation
Michelle Ross the Voice and Influence Worker for Kirklees Youth Council provided a fabulous voiceover.

How the animation was made
Fettle worked with Kirklees Council Kickstart team to give an opportunity to a new graduate to work in the studio on a 2D animation.
This animation was designed by illustrator Mari-Ann Else. Mari-Ann designed all the elements of the animation in her own unique style. This is a departure from our usual styles, but one which we really enjoyed.

Animating democracy
Ryan Jones from the Fettle team animated Mari-Ann's designs under the watchful eye of Fettle's Director Zane Whittingham in our animation studio.
Launching the Animation

The animation was launched at Notwestminster an annual conference for people and organisations involved in local democracy in February 2022 at the University of Huddersfield.

We are really pleased with the reception that the animation has received.
