Our latest animation

Our newest animation was broadcast on Children’s BBC Newsround on Friday 8th July and on BBC Breakfast on Saturday 9th July and is available online on the Newsround website.

It tells the story of Ruth, a brave and intelligent young woman who escaped violence in Eritrea to start a new life in the United Kingdom.

She tells of her perilous journey walking across Africa, the conditions she endured to get to Europe and how she finally came to Britain.

Newsround is a news programme made especially for 6 – 12 year old children. We made this programme with the help of their lovely presenter Hayley Hassall, who interviewed the girl, and has worked with us to uncover the essence of the story.

We hope that our animation can help young children to better understand people that they encounter from refugee backgrounds.

We also hope to counter some of the prejudice that refugee children encounter as they are trying to rebuild their lives in a new country.

Well done as ever to our own Zane Whittingham for design and direction and to Ryan Jones for his excellent animation.
