Brand new award nomination

We’ve a brand new award nomination!

We’re pleased to have been shortlisted for a second time for a Sandford St Martin’s Children’s Award.

The Sandford St Martin Awards are the UK’s most prestigious broadcast awards for radio, TV and online programmes that reflect religious, spiritual or ethical themes.

“The Sandford St Martin Trust promotes thought-provoking, distinctive programming that engages with religion of all faiths, ethics or morality.  They believe the media have an increasingly important and challenging role to play in interpreting what happens in the world.  Through their work, they  promote understanding, increase tolerance and help build community.”

We’ve been nominated for Ruth’s Story, our animation made with BBC Newsround.  The story recounts the bravery of a young Eritrean refugee and her perilous journey to England.

This was based on an interview with CBBC Newsround presenter Hayley Hassall and commissioned by editor Lewis James.

“Life was very hard in Eritrea, especially for a girl.  If you are fourteen, you have to get married.  I said I wanted to study but they said I had to marry. I didn’t know the boy I was supposed to marry.  He could be 32 or 35 years old. I had two choices, marry or go into the military, so I had to leave.  It was about four o’clock when I left my home.  I took nothing with me, just my clothes I was wearing.  I couldn’t say goodbye to my family because I knew my Mum would cry.”
